Seaweed growth rate

By comparison with land based crops, Seaweed is a phenomenally good grower. SeatechEnergy, using its patented growing technology, was able to grow seaweed at a harvest rate of 800 – 1,000 Tons per hectare per annum. These growth tests were carried out in Indonesia under independent supervision and the growth rate was verified by an internationally accredited agency.

By comparison, the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural affairs published a report at the end of 2017 which documents the yield of various land-based crops.

  • Wheat – 8.5 tons per hectare
  • Barley – 6.3 tons per hectare
  • Oats – 5.8 tons per hectare
  • Oilseed Rape – 3.9 tons per hectare

Looking at these published figures, you can see why the Seaweed growth rate of 800 – 1,000 tons per hectare must be considered as FANTASTIC.
